A delegation from the Korea Institute of Fusion Energy (KFE), which operates the superconducting tokamak KSTAR, visited the Institute of Plasma Physics of the CAS (IPP) from 29 September to 1 ctober 2026.
The delegation, led by Dr. Jun-Gyo Bak, met with several IPP researchers to discuss the
continuation and intensification of the existing collaboration between the two institutes in fusion
research.
The discussions focused on the results from the Hall-probe-based magnetic diagnostic system
developed by IPP and recently installed on KSTAR, as well as ideas for its further extension. The
partners also explored joint development and testing of innovative methods for plasma equilibrium
reconstruction, specifics of magnetic sensor design, long pulse signal integration methods, and the
possible eployment of ball-pen probes developed by IPP on KSTAR. This already fruitful
collaboration will be further strengthened by an exchange of doctoral students. The first step will
take place in 2026, when Ing. Matěj Ivánek will visit
KFE for a two-month mission devoted to the analysis of
KSTAR magnetic diagnostics data.
