Profesor Hartmut Zohm převzal Machovu medaili za zásluhy o fúzi

Professor Hartmut Zohm from the Max-Planck-Institut für Plasmaphysik has received the Ernst Mach Medal of Honor for his services to the physical sciences. He received this prestigious award from the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic for his lifelong contribution to nuclear fusion and plasma physics research.

Professor Zohm has been an important partner for many years for the Institute of Plasma Physics of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic. From 2011 to 2016, he chaired the international advisory board. He helped set up the scientific program of the COMPASS tokamak and was at the origin of the strategy for the current COMPASS Upgrade project. He regularly shares his experience with young scientists and helps build strong working ties between the teams in Garching and Prague.

Professor Zohm's work in the field of plasma stability and transport phenomena determines the direction in which fusion research in Europe is taking place. He was able to theoretically predict and then demonstrate in practice the stabilization of magnetic islands in hot plasma using microwave heating.
