On Tuesday, December 10, the Academic Assembly elected Professor Radomír Pánek, as the new President of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, who won the first round by winning an absolute majority of votes, 128 out of 242 ballots.
He will replace Professor Eva Zažímalová, who is finishing her second term. He is due to take office in March 2025 and will lead the Academy of Sciences until 2029.
Four other candidates applied for this post.
“I really appreciate the trust you put in me. I will do my best to move the Academy of Sciences
of the Czech Republic a good deal further,” Radomír Pánek told the members of the Academic
Assembly after his election.
Radomír Pánek has led the institute for ten years, which has undergone considerable
development during his tenure, he also has international experience in the field of management of
European research institutions. He is the Chairman or member of a number of scientific boards and
panels of foreign and Czech institutions and he serves on several expert committees of the European
Commission. He lectures at Charles University and CTU in Prague and is the author or co-author of
more than 160 impacted publications.
