Large electromagnetic forces in the COMPASS Upgrade tokamak will be counteracted by a massive support structure.
Production of all major components of the structure started with casting AISI 316LN stainless steel ingots. The last batch was cast last week by Valbruna company in Italy and delivered to a forge for further manufacturing steps. The whole 170 t support structure will be finished by the end of 2025 by the Italian company Dal Ben S.p.A.
