President Petr Pavel visited IPP

The Czech Academy of Sciences hosted a rare visit from President Petr Pavel. Science and innovation represent a key strategic opportunity for the Czech Republic.

The President highlighted the high level of Czech research and its strong international involvement. The discussion focused on the need for stable funding and success in obtaining international grants, which enable the implementation of ambitious projects. One of the three workplaces visited was our institute, where the head of state looked around several laboratories with interest. For example, the President looked into the materials engineering laboratory, which deals with the unique "cold spray" method (you can read about it in an interview with scientist Jan Čížek). He also visited the plasma pyrolysis laboratory, where hydrogen and carbon nanotubes are produced from organic waste. An unusual experience for him was a tour of the Tokamak COMPASS Upgrade fusion experimental facility under construction. “Nuclear fusion is undoubtedly the energy future of humanity and the Czech Republic has great potential to participate in this technology, given the know-how and quality of engineers and businesses, but especially our scientists,” said President Petr Pavel. The professional approach of Czech scientists and their ability to attract experts from abroad are proof that Czech science is among the world's top.
