The first use of the PAS method on cold sprayed deposits selected as the Best Paper of International Thermal Spray Conference 2023
The introduction of the world’s first use of positron annihilation spectroscopy (PAS) method for the analysis of cold sprayed additively manufactured materials was selected as the Best Paper of the 2023 International Thermal Spray Conference (held in Quebec City, Canada).
The authors of the study were scientists from the Department of Materials Engineering of the
IPP, Jan Cizek, Jan Medricky, Filip Stefanik, and colleagues from the Faculty of Mathematics and
Physics, Charles University, and German company Impact Innovations, GmbH.
For the first time, the use of the PAS method described in the manuscript „Cold sprayed
deposits characterized by positron annihilation spectroscopy“ (https://dl.asminternational.org/itsc/proceedings/ITSC2023/84536/85/26292
) allowed us to characterize and quantify the extent of atomic lattice defects in cold sprayed
materials below the resolution of electron microscopy. In this pioneer study, additively
manufactured deposits of pure Al, Cu, Ni, and Ti were characterized. The conference organization
committee has suggested the results be published as an invited paper in the Journal of Thermal
Spray Technology.
