Research published by Materials Engineering Department selected as Best Paper of 2023 in Coatings journal
The research of functional Ni-Ti-based shape memory alloy coatings deposited by our unique RF-ICP technology published in the Open Access Coatings journal ranked among the 10 top-cited papers last year. This year, the paper received the Best Paper of 2023 award.
The paper presents the possibility of deposition of thick, but well-adhering coatings using
the RF-ICP plasma spray. Given the sensitivity of these materials toward oxidation, the process
took place in controlled atmosphere. Importantly, during the fabrication the team of authors
managed to retain the functional properties of these special alloys despite the solid/liquid state
transitions. Considering the promising pioneer results, the research now continues focusing on the
influence of the input powder material production routes.
